I've complained about the small size of our house. And how my DH and I each brought our stuff to the house when we bought it three and a half years ago, making the place feel quite cramped. And how we need to clear out to make room for a baby and all the stuff that comes with babies and childhood.
Which brings me to my DH's books. His massive collection of books. Books, books everywhere. Well, he did it. Over the past weekend, he spent hours going through all his books. Books in the house and in the garage. He packed up 260 books and delivered them to G/ood W/ill.
Yes, that's Two Hundred Sixty books!
All of the books he has left now fit into 2 bookcases. That's it. He even remarked that I probably have more books than he does now. It could be true.
I was really impressed with his willingness to part with his beloved books. Of course, this does not mean he will part with any of his 862,026,198 CDs. That would be asking too much.
But we're getting there.
As for my part, I went through boxes and boxes of photos. I threw away several hundred photos. Why do I keep pictures of places I can't remember or identify? Why do I keep blurry photos or photos of people I can no longer identify? Why do I keep duplicates? Beats me. They're gone. I also cleaned out desk drawers and cupboards.
One thing is for sure, the hope of an expected child will cause you to stop procrastinating and do the things you've mulled over for years, but never gotten around to.

Wow! I am impressed, I have to say.
Today I sent 7 boxes of general stuff off to the GW, but it was all mine. My husband did drive it over there, though - at least he's helpful!
Good for you!!! Isn't it a great feeling to have that extra stuff gone and all of the space that results!!
GOOD JOB!
I'm quite impressed! Feel free to come over and work on my closets when you get done. Guess I'll actually have to get pregnant before I manage to tackle the mess that has taken over all our closets and attic space. Congrats on clearing out some of the junk! I know it must feel good.
That definitely is one of the great things about expecting - you want to get all organized and streamlined. And it feels so good to do it! I think we're both fighting an uphill battle, though. No matter how organized we get before the baby is born, I'm sure the house will be soooo unorganized after!!! :)
(Of course, I think I will be different from everyone else and will be able to keep an organized, clean house, while caring for a newborn, working full time, and working out to get back into shape quickly. Oh, and maybe even trying for a second while I might still have an egg or two left. That's reasonable, right??? My friends with kids laugh at me every day!)
Hmmmm.....I will have to see if that will work with my packrat husband....not counting on it :)
Ah yes....good advice. I better get busy!
260! I am utterly impressed.
I am a book hound, too, so I can completely understand your DH...I am relieved to hear that a baby on the way will cure me of my ills!
Oh I feel for your hubby! When we moved overseas I had to get rid of 20-odd years worth of books (seriously I still had some kids books in there) and it broke my heart! When we moved back here a few months ago I had to get rid of 5 years worth and even then had to very expensively ship 100 books back with us.
Well done sweetie and very very well done to your DH! can't wait to sse the things that will replace the books and photos! love, Fran
