And On It Goes

Lab results. We want them so desperately. Then we analyze and worry over them. It never ends.

My lab results from yesterday are back.

E2 = 908.

When you have ER, E2 will be this high and higher. But with an FET, the E2 should be lower. Prior to my transfer my E2 was 599 and they were happy with that. Should it be 900+ now? I don't know. My Clinic person is out of the office until tomorrow.

Beta = 75,638.

I know that betas stop doubling every 48 hours at some point. Dr. Google says that by the 7th to 8th week of pregnancy, it can take as long as 3.5 days for beta hcg to double. My doubling time is now 3.93 (almost FOUR) days. Is baby's growth/viability/life slowing?

Progesterone = 28.5

I guess this is fine. I think they were happy with 15 or greater. Don't know if this is a little too "great."

It's just one, long Worrycoaster ride. We're artificially trying to mimic the body's hormones during pregnancy. Trying to maintain that perfect balance until the pregnancy is far enough along to take over without supplementation.

I feel like I'm out there on the tight rope wire, taking one slow step at a time, hoping I don't fall. Everything hanging in the balance. And day after day, I'm just holding my breath, hoping for the best. Am I turning blue yet?

Your numbers sound right on to me. It's completely impossible to not worry. The first few weeks are absolute torture. The odds are in your favor...you have seen the heartbeat and your numbers are terrific!

I'm not going to tell you to stop worrying. I was a wreck and I understand what it's like but I do hope you can enjoy it at the same time.

I can see why you are so frustrated/ scared. I have no idea what all those numbers mean except that your progesterone sounds great. All signs point to a healthy and happy pg. Keeping my fingers crossed that all stays wonderful with you and the bean.

Try to relax pal..., though I know it must be hard!

I really don't know about the E2 level after FET.. but your HCG sounds right on track, as far as I know! Dr Google says what I've heard, too...that it slows down considerably around the 7th week. Of course I know that none of these facts help the worry go away...I think it's a nice side effect of infertility that we have been blessed with...:(

I can't wait to hear about your next U/S! I am sure it will put you at ease for a bit!

i can only comment on your progesterone - and its great. my office wanted me over 25! so you are really doing well on all counts, i think!!

hard to keep from worrying, i know. as erinjean said, its a side effect of infertility. we all know way too much for our own good.

popping in to say hi - ive seen your comments recently on some blogs we both visit and have just now been able to get caught up on your blog.

some of your recent posts are so touching - the one last week about the spotting made me tear right up and get goose bumps, i was so glad to read your little one is doing okay.

also, the post about "losing" the embryos that didnt implant hit home. we thawed four, transferred three, and only one stuck around. i sometimes feel like something is missing - that i was supposed to be carrying multiples after transferring so many. you described that beautifully with your comment about being sad your babe's siblings aren't coming along too.

alright, ill end this long comment now! good luck with your u/s tomorrow, hope it brings you additional reassurance.

Ugh, the worrying is the worst... I don't know what to tell you to help you feel better, just know that those numbers sound just fine and you will be holding your baby and everything will be worth it :)

I second the motion that we are all too aware of too much (but who can blame us for tracking, counting, worrying?). I think it's great to get reassurance from the clinic-types that all these numbers are in the normal range, but medical science only takes things so far and I believe what matters most is how you feel. To quiet the outside noise and just listen to your baby bean.

P.S. By the way, are you considering putting up one of those fetus widget things, so we can all see how big he/she is becoming? No pressure!! ;-)

To cheer you up, make this! =) Thinking about you!

Chicken, Cashew, and Red Pepper Stir Fry

3 3/4 tsp cornstarch
2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
2 tsp dry sherry
1 tsp rice wine vinegar
3/4 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp tabasco
1 lb chicken breast, cut into thin strips
1/2 cup (or more if you love cashews like I do) cashews
2 Tbsp canola oil
2 cups julienne cut red bell pepper (one large)
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp minced peeled fresh ginger
3 Tbsp thinly sliced green onions

Combine 1 tsp cornstarch, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, and the next 4 ingredients (through hot pepper sauce) in a small bowl; stir with a whisk.

Comine remaining 2 3/4 tsp cornstarch, remaining 1 Tbsp soy sauce and chicken in a medium bowl; toss well to coat.

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add cashews to pan; cook 3 minutes or until lightly toasted, stirring frequently. Remove from pan.

Add oil to pan, swirling to coat. Ad chicken mixture to pan; saute 2 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove chicken from pan; place in a bowl. Add bell pepper to pan; saute 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and ginger; cook 30 seconds. Add chicken and cornstarch mixture to pan; cook 1 minute or until sauce is slightly thick. Sprinkle with cashews and green onions. Yield: 4 servings (one cup/serving).

It is impossible not to worry. Looks like we are all thinking about you and hoping with you.

You are such a source of information, support, affection and relief for so many of us. I wish I could do something for you, I wish I could call for you, be your advocate. Instead may I suggest tea and toast with honey - always does the trick for me. But then, I am English!!

I second the suggestion of tea and toast with honey ( or marmalade! ) says another English gal!!!
Your progesterone sounds great! Your beta sounds great! Not sure about E2. But hold on tight - your U/S should be another reassurance on this tightrope walk. I know I am going to be a nervous wreck if i ever get to this point so i am going to go away and try to balance on one leg in preparation for the precariousness of it all!
We are all cheering for you:)
Take care. Love your blog:) But you know that already:)(HUGS)

Sending calming thoughts before the u/s today - hope all goes well! Hang in there and I hope the nausea abates soon (I had a horrible time with it, then it suddenly left)

Stop worrying? Come on..we wouldn't be IF gals without the worrying!! So that's not going to happen in any case, we'll have to put up with it for the next few months! But to calm you a little, your E2 levels are perfect, they do rise durign pregnancy, I checked it out for you, is the placenta that produces its own estrogen! apparently it's also linked with restless legs! Do you have that? Progesterone is absolutely prefect, anything in the 25 region is what you are looking for, it means you support therapy works a treat! Beta are fab, you definitely cannot check the doubling time once you are above 10,000, I promise it's true! I'm surprised they tested them actually! But I know you can be pretty convincing eheheh! So scan today, can't wait to hear, I have a great feeling about it and the time difference is killing me!!!
Thanks for the tips on improving the sleep, it did go a it better last night, but I supopse it can't be fully helped with the meds I'm on. Big hugs and lots of love, Fran

Wouldn't it be nice if all lab results came with a chart that told you if the numbers were good, bad, in range, etc.? It's great to get the nu,bers, but without the interpretation, it's not so useful!

Based on the little I know, the HCG and P seem great. I have some links on my blog that show normal ranges for P and HCG if you want to check them out (although I'm sure you've found the same thng on google already!).

I know nothing about E2 levels, except that when I got pg, I was on estrace in preparation for my next IVF. So my E2 levels were extremely high, much more than they would see in a natural pregnancy (over 600, I believe). They had me continue on the Estrace anyway, even though the E2was plenty high, just so nothing changed until they saw the heartbeat. They never even tested that level again. I was left with the impression that as long as it's over a fairly low number, it's fine.
